Here is some background information for new students:
- This class is aimed at newcomers and beginners to Tai Chi. No previous experience is needed. If you do have previous experience, the instructor can review your existing skills and let you know what to expect.
- The majority of the workout will be between your knees and the bottom of your ribcage. Please eat and drink lightly before class.
- We take knee safety seriously and will address it at the start of each class.
- Recommended attire: t-shirt, yoga pants, padded socks
- This is a slow progression class. The class is divided into four phases: warmups, balance drills, reviewing old material, and learning new material. You may feel “behind” at first when joining – this is no problem, and it will fade in 2 to 3 classes as you learn the material.
- This class focuses on teaching part 1 of the traditional Yang style 108 position Long Form. This is not a “new frame” short competition form class. There are about 20 moves total that last about 4 minutes.
- Tai Chi is a practice that is developed slowly over time. It can be learned more quickly with frequent attendance, modest practice at home, and by asking questions regularly.
- The instructor will move around the floor regularly to check on your progress and demonstrate proper form.
- The instructor has been trained in the entire Yang Style Tai Chi martial art, and is happy to answer your questions or talk about Tai Chi in general. If they have not already greeted you, feel free to say hi!
